Navaranga entryway - north

The image shows the entrance on the north side of the Belur Chennakeshava Temple. The structure of this entrance is similar to the main entrance that faces east and the other entrance to the south.

Unlike the main entrance, at the bottom part of the door are the sculptures of Jaya and Vijaya - the doormen or Dwarapalakas of Vishnu. While on the main entrance we see the sculptures of Rati and Manmatha and on the south entrance we see the sculptures of Garuda and Hanuman.

Mounted on the pillars near the top, but just below the eaves, are the beautifully-carved sculptures, popularly known as bracket figures of dancing girls called the Madanikas or the Shilabalikas. The Madanikas at each entrance differ from each other as well.

At this entrance, only the left section of the facade has the jalandhra - the stone screen or the perforated window.
